Frequently asked questions
Get started
Seven small steps, none of them technical. 1) Pick a category — 612 to choose from, grouped as Business, Event, My page and Portfolio; the search box finds it in any language. 2) Tell us a little about you: name, address, contact, social media, opening hours — everything can be skipped except the company registration number for a business. 3) Choose a layout, the number of pages (one to three), a theme, and whether the site gets a contact form and a gallery. 4) Pick a colour — sidy works out the whole palette. 5) Review: the preview is the real site, and in the manual builder you swap text, images and sizes with a click. 6) Choose an address: a free sidy address, a domain you already have, or one you buy now — and add an icon, Google submission and invitations if you like. 7) Pay 349 NOK once. The draft is ready instantly, and your choices stay saved in the browser for a week if you leave halfway.
349 NOK, once. That covers building, publishing and hosting the site — no subscription, no monthly fee, no lock-in. A free sidy address, or connecting a domain you already own, is included. If you buy a new domain it is extra and paid in the same checkout, per year; the price for your exact name — first year and renewal — is shown at checkout before you pay. Email invitations when the site goes live cost 49 NOK. The amount you see at checkout is the whole amount; nothing is added. If you buy just a domain, without a site, you pay the domain price alone.
By card at checkout, through Stripe — your card details go straight to them and are never stored with us. The charge is made in Norwegian kroner; if you pick another currency at checkout, the amount is shown converted at Norges Bank's daily rate, as a guide. Nothing is charged until you press “Pay”. The receipt goes to the email you enter. Buying for a company, tick the box and fill in company name, country, registration number and VAT number if you have one — they appear on the receipt so it can be used as a voucher in your accounts.
Try the search box first — it finds the category in all six languages, so “hairdresser” matches even when you search in Swedish or Norwegian. There are 612 categories, grouped as Business, Event, My page and Portfolio, and “All” shows them together. If yours isn't there, pick the closest one: text, images and sections can be swapped in the builder, so the site becomes yours anyway. And tell us — new categories are added continuously, usually within a few days.
You choose the site's language in the first step: Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic or English. Text, images, buttons, form and footer follow that language, and the site is labelled with it for search engines. The language you use in the builder and at checkout is independent — you can build a Swedish site with an English menu. One site has one language. To reach customers in two languages, build two sites, or write to us and we will find a way.
You build and review the site without an account; the account is only needed when you publish. It is created with email and password, and you confirm the email with a link. Forgot your password: you get a link by email and choose a new one. If you change your password in your profile, we first send a one-time code to your email. Your profile holds “Your sites” — each site with status, address and link — and “Your domains”, where you see who each domain is registered to at the registry and manage DNS yourself. You can add a profile picture too. The builder remembers your choices in the browser for a week, even without logging in.
Your site
One, two or three — you choose in step three. Each page can have its own layout and colour, and its own name in the menu at the top. On top of that you can switch on a gallery, which becomes its own subpage with up to twenty images, and a contact form on the front page. All for the same price. Need more than three pages? Write to us.
Seven layouts: Classic (text left, big image right), Poster (the image fills the top), Centred, Image wall (images first), Newspaper (big headline and columns), Cards and Line. Over 300 themes — a subtle background pattern, sorted into groups such as Flowers, Sea and water, Crafts and Food and drink — with its own theme colour if you like. A hundred colours to choose from; sidy works out the rest of the palette. Every category also has its own animated effect at the bottom of the front page, made for that trade. Everything is built mobile-first and looks as good on a phone as on a screen.
sidy does. Every category comes with finished text in all six languages — headline, intro, services, questions and answers and a quote — written for the trade, not generic filler, and three professional high-resolution images with a Nordic look. Everything is ready the moment you pick a category; nothing is generated while you wait. You can change every word and swap every image in the builder. What is on the site is yours: the text and images sidy makes for you may be used outside the site too. We only use them to run and display your site.
Yes. In the manual builder you swap any image on the site for your own — images are shrunk in the browser to a maximum of 1600 pixels, so the site stays fast. Switch on the gallery and you add up to twenty images, and more later through a private link emailed to you after publication. Your own icon (favicon — the small image in the browser tab and on the home screen) is uploaded in the “Extras” step. A dedicated logo field is coming; until then use the icon and the image swap. If the site gets too large, the builder tells you and asks for smaller images.
Before you pay you can change everything yourself. Open the manual builder from the preview: click a text and rewrite it, make it smaller, larger or wider, swap an image, pick a theme and theme colour, name the pages. Press “Save changes” and they carry on — also when you go back to review your choices. If you change an earlier choice such as language or category, the site has to be put together again, and we ask first. After publishing, email us what you want changed — new text, new images, a new section — and we do it. Self-service editing of a published site is in the works.
They reach you by email. You switch the form on in step three and enter the address the messages should go to; for an event, “Reply here” is always included and the reply email is mandatory. When someone submits, the message is stored briefly with us and forwarded to your address within five minutes, in the language you built the site in — with the sender's name and contact details, so you reply directly. The form has built-in spam protection. We do not read the messages, and they are deleted continuously after forwarding.
For a business: the company registration number. The law requires it on the website, so the field is mandatory — enter it and we fetch the company name and address automatically from Brønnøysund in Norway, Bolagsverket in Sweden and PRH in Finland, and put it in the footer. For an event: the email the replies should go to. Everything else is optional: street address, phone, email, opening hours and social media appear where they belong once you fill them in, and the site uses standard text where you leave things blank. The contact form and gallery you switch on yourself.
Pages that harass or expose someone, pornographic content, hate speech, threats, or content connected to violent or hateful movements. Such pages are permanently deleted without refund. If you see a sidy page breaking this, report it at misbruk@sidy.no — we'll look at it right away.
The site comes with a “Book” button and a contact form as standard: the customer writes what they want, you get it by email and arrange directly. Calendar booking with time slots and a full web shop with payment on the site do not exist yet — both are on the plan. If you already have a booking system or a web shop, the button can link there: send us the link and we put it in.
Yes, we submit the page to Google for you. It’s free, and you don’t have to do anything: we show Google the address is yours, register the page with them and send them the map of the page. The page is also built the way Google likes it — tidy structure, title and description in place, fast and made for mobile. Every page we have put online with Google switched on turned up in Google within a few days. How high up you land when someone searches is another matter — that’s Google’s call, and it depends on how many others are fighting over the same words. AI assistants read the same things Google does, but nobody can promise you a place there either.
Yes. All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS; the certificate is set up automatically, also on your own domain, and renews itself. The site is set up without tracking and without cookies that require consent — so it needs no cookie banner either. If you use the contact form, messages go straight to your email and are deleted with us after forwarding. To measure visits you connect your own tool and take responsibility for it yourself.
Not yet. Visitor statistics is something we're working on, and it will be privacy-friendly — no cookies, no IP addresses. If you want to measure visits today, you can connect your own tool.
For as long as sidy exists. You pay once, there's no lock-in and nothing to cancel. If we ever shut the service down, you'll be told well in advance and helped to take your site with you. Your domain is yours regardless.
Up to 300 email addresses in one send, for 49 NOK. You write the subject line yourself and paste in the addresses, and the invitation goes out the moment the page is live. The addresses are used for that one send only and are not kept afterwards.
Publishing starts the second the payment is approved. With a sidy address the site is live at once. With a domain you already own, you get the DNS lines by email, we check the domain every five minutes, and the site goes up the moment it points here. With a domain you buy, it is registered at the registry as the process for that ending describes further down, and the site goes up automatically when the address responds. You get a receipt by email, and an email with the link when the site is live. If you asked for an icon, Google submission or invitations, that happens at the same time. You see the status under “Your sites”. Should anything stall, we are alerted and write to you.
Domains
Yes. The domain is registered in your name, with your details, from day one. We make the purchase through our account — so you get the domain in the same transaction as the site and do not have to set anything up elsewhere. If you would rather have it in your own account, we give you the transfer code free of charge. For .no you are listed at Norid both as subscriber and as technical contact — nobody else is on the domain — and you can move it to another registrar at any time without asking us: order the change with the new one, approve Norid’s email, done. Under “Your domains” in your profile you can see who the domain is registered to, and manage the DNS yourself.
The Nordic .no, .se and .fi — plus international endings such as .com, .net, .online, .shop and many more. .dk and .is open later; if you already own one, you connect it to your site free of charge. The price for your exact name is shown at checkout before you pay, and every domain you buy through us gets the same panel under “Your domains”.
Yes, wherever it was bought. The domain stays with your provider, and we get no access to the account. Right after payment you get an email with the DNS lines to add — two for a normal domain, one for a subdomain — with steps tailored to your provider as far as we know it. We check every five minutes, and the site goes up the moment the domain points here; the certificate is handled automatically. Your email on the domain is not affected. Note that you get a new site built by sidy: content from an old site is not moved over, and if the main domain is pointed here, the new site replaces the old one. To keep the old one, use a subdomain, for example new.yourdomain.com.
We check the name live at the registry as you type and say “is taken” straight away. Waiting or writing to us does not help then — only the owner can give up a registered domain. Try another spelling, add a place name or your trade, or try another ending: the same name is often free under .no, .se or .com. To get going now, take a free sidy address and move the site to a domain later.
Yes. Press “I just want to buy a domain” in the menu on the front page. You choose a name and an ending (.no, .com, .se and more), fill in who the domain should be registered to, and pay only the domain price — no site price. The domain is registered in your name and lives under “Your domains” in your profile, where you manage DNS, fetch the transfer code and can point it wherever you like. If you want a site on it later, build one whenever you like and choose “I have a domain” when you publish.
An organisation number in the Norwegian Register of Legal Entities, or — as a private individual resident in Norway — a personal ID from Norid (created free of charge at norid.no in a few minutes). For .no we never ask for a national identity number. At checkout you sign Norid’s applicant’s declaration electronically; it is sent to Norid with the registration, and you get a copy by email. Norid requires the declaration to be in Norwegian, whatever language you otherwise use.
The Swedish Internet Foundation (IIS) requires a unique identity number for the owner. For an organisation: the organisation number and the organisation’s name — Swedish companies are fetched from Bolagsverket and Norwegian ones from the Enhetsregisteret, others type it in. For a private individual: a national ID number or passport number. The number is tagged with a country code, sent only to the registry and never shown publicly. Companies in the EU outside Sweden may also give a VAT number, but it is optional — you do not need to be VAT-registered. Without a Swedish organisation number or personal identity number we ask for one document after the purchase: a certificate of registration for a company, or a copy of your passport or national ID card for a private individual. You get an email with a single button, and we send the document to the registrar for you. Without documentation Internetstiftelsen puts the domain on hold after about 60 days. Shortly after payment you get an email from the registrar (sender noreply@mydomainprovider.com) in which you confirm the details; the registration completes the moment you confirm, and the site goes live on the domain automatically.
What Traficom requires, and nothing more. For an organisation: company form, name and registration number — Y-tunnus for Finnish companies. For a private individual living in Finland: the personal identity number (henkilötunnus). For other private individuals: date of birth. The number goes only to the registry and is never shown publicly by us.
You type the name you want (yourname.sidy.no), we check that it is available, and you pay. The site goes live the moment the payment is approved — it is served straight from our database, so there is nothing to wait for. The receipt and the link to the site arrive by email. The address is free for as long as the site is running with us, and you can move the site onto a domain you connect or buy at any time.
You type your domain, and we check that it exists. Right after payment you get an email with the DNS records to enter at your provider — two records for a normal domain, one for a subdomain — tailored to the provider as far as we know it. It takes a couple of minutes. We check the domain every five minutes, and the moment it points here the site goes live, the certificate is set up automatically and you get the link by email. The domain stays with your provider, and we get no access to the account. The site sits ready until you have entered the records; if it takes more than two weeks, we let you know and start again when you say so.
Choose .no, type the name, and we check that it is available at Norid — with the price and the renewal price next to it. Then you fill in the organisation number (we fetch the name and address from Brønnøysund) or your Norid personal ID, and sign Norid’s applicant’s declaration at checkout. The moment the payment is approved, the domain is registered at Norid in your name, with you as subscriber and technical contact — no email to confirm, no waiting. Norid updates its name servers every two hours, so the address answers within a few hours, and the site goes live automatically when it does. By email you get the receipt, a copy of the declaration and the link once the site is live. Under “Your domains” in your profile you manage DNS yourself.
Choose .se, type the name, and we check that it is available at the Swedish Internet Foundation (IIS) — with the price and the renewal price next to it. Then you fill in what IIS requires: the organisation number and the organisation’s name, or a national ID number or passport number for a private individual. The moment the payment is approved, the registration starts in your name. Shortly after, you get an email from the registrar — sender noreply@mydomainprovider.com, subject “Please confirm your contact details for …” — where you click “Approve”. Only then is the registration completed; after that DNS is set up automatically and the site goes live on the domain within a quarter of an hour. Until you have confirmed, the domain shows as “Waiting for your confirmation” under “Your domains”, and the site does not answer on the address yet. If you cannot find the email, check your spam folder — or write to us. Without a Swedish organisation number or personal identity number we also ask for one document — a certificate of registration or a copy of your passport or ID card — in a separate email with a single button. Without documentation Internetstiftelsen puts the domain on hold after about 60 days.
Choose the ending, type the name, and we check that it is available and what that exact name costs — first year and renewal. Then you fill in name, address and phone; ICANN requires a domain to be held by a named person or organisation. The moment the payment is approved, the domain is registered in your name, DNS is set up automatically, and the site is usually live within a quarter of an hour — you get the link by email. The registry requires the contact email to be confirmed within 15 days; we handle that confirmation, and you can see in your profile that it has been done. For the first 60 days an international domain cannot be moved to another provider (ICANN’s rule) — “Your domains” shows the date it lifts.
Choose .fi, type the name, and we check that it is available at Traficom, the Finnish registry — with the price and the renewal price next to it. Then you fill in what Traficom requires: for an organisation the type of organisation, its name and registration number (Y-tunnus for Finnish companies); for a private individual resident in Finland the personal identity code (henkilötunnus), for everyone else the date of birth. The moment the payment is approved, the domain is registered with Traficom in your name — no email to confirm, no waiting. DNS is set up automatically, and the site goes live on the domain within a quarter of an hour; you get the link by email. Under “Your domains” in your profile you manage DNS yourself, and you can move the domain to another provider at any time — the transfer code is free from us.
First check the status under “Your sites” — it says what the site is waiting for. A domain you already had: make sure the DNS lines are entered exactly as in the email; changes at the provider can take minutes to a few hours to spread, and we check every five minutes. New .no: Norid updates the name servers every other hour, so give it a few hours. New .se: if the domain shows “Waiting for your confirmation”, there is an email from the registrar waiting for you — check the spam folder. The certificate is set up by itself once the address responds. If it still does not respond after a day, write to us with the domain name and we will look into it.
For .no, .se and .fi: Realtime Register B.V., a registrar accredited by Norid, the Swedish Internet Foundation (IIS) and Traficom — that is the name you see in the registries’ lookups. For international endings: an ICANN-accredited registrar we buy through. NordicSync AS is the reseller in every case, and that gives us no rights to the domain. Under “Your domains” it is stated for each domain.
Because ICANN requires the contact address to be confirmed within 15 days, or the domain is suspended — and an email from a registry you have never heard of is easy to miss. We handle that confirmation, and you can see in your profile that it has been done. You are still the owner with your name and your address, and if you would rather be listed with your own email, just say so. For the Nordic endings — .no, .se and .fi — your own email address is on file at the registry.
A Nordic domain (.no, .se, .fi): yes, at any time. International endings: ICANN locks transfers for the first 60 days after registration, and “Your domains” shows the date it lifts. The transfer code is free regardless of ending — we never charge for handing it over.
For .no, Norid shows the subscriber — you — and that Realtime Register B.V. is the reseller. For .se, the Swedish Internet Foundation (IIS) shows organisations’ names and organisation numbers but hides private individuals’ details. For .fi, Traficom shows organisations but not private individuals. For international endings, the owner details are hidden in the public lookup; that is the privacy rule for these endings, not our choice. There you see the domain’s status and name servers. If you need the owner details in writing, you get them from us.
The renewal price is shown next to the purchase price at checkout, and it is stored on the order. For international endings the first year is often a promotional price, and the renewal can be higher — which is why both numbers are there. It is the renewal price we remind you of 30 and 7 days before expiry. For the Nordic endings the price is calculated from the registry’s price plus our margin, and the renewal price is shown next to it at checkout.
The registration lasts one year and does not renew automatically. You get a reminder by email 30 and 7 days before it expires, with the renewal price, and you decide whether to renew through us or take the domain with you. Nothing is charged without your say-so. If you do not renew, the registry deletes the domain after expiry and anyone can register it — your content stays with us.
Yes. If you bought the domain through us, it sits under “Your domains” in your profile. There you can see who the domain is registered to, and set email (MX), verification codes (TXT) and subdomains yourself. You can also point the address to a completely different website — if you built something elsewhere, paste the address they gave you and we point the domain there. Your email stays as it is.
Yes. If you bought the domain through us, you set the MX records yourself under “Your domains” in your profile — with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or whoever you like. You do not need to ask us.
Yes — you build and publish in your own language, and the site works the same across the Nordics. Enter the company registration number and we fetch the company name automatically: from Brønnøysund in Norway, Bolagsverket in Sweden and PRH in Finland. In Denmark and Iceland you enter the company details yourself for now.
Terms and help
Yes, up until the site is published. Publishing starts as soon as you've paid, and for digital content delivered immediately the right to cancel ends once delivery has begun — you agree to this at checkout. If something is wrong with the site, we'll redo it.
Yes, at any time. Email us from the address you ordered with and we'll delete the site and your details. You keep your domain. Payment is not refunded after publishing.
Yes. Ask, and we'll send you the HTML file for your site so you can host it wherever you like. Your domain comes with you regardless.
What is needed to deliver: email, name and password for the account, the order with what you chose and paid (only Stripe sees the card number), the content of your site, and — if you buy a domain — the details the registry requires about the owner, which are sent there and not shown publicly by us. Messages from the contact form are kept only until forwarded. On sidy.no, analytics and marketing are used only if you consent in the cookie banner; your site is set up without tracking. Customer data is deleted or anonymised no later than twelve months after the customer relationship ends, and you can ask for deletion at any time. It is all in the privacy policy.
